Courteeners announce huge Lincoln Castle show with The Coral

Courteeners have announced a huge outdoor show at Lincoln Castle for summer 2027, with The Coral and The Guest List also joining the bill.

The Manchester indie veterans will take over the historic Lincolnshire landmark on Friday June 11, bringing a catalogue that’s spent the best part of two decades soundtracking festival fields and indie discos

The show forms part of Live at Lincoln Castle 2027 and is the second new announcement for the series this week, following the reveal of Robert Plant with Saving Grace and Suzi Dian.

Tickets for both shows go on sale at 10am on Friday via lincolncastle.com

Courteeners arrive in Lincoln having recently celebrated their 20th anniversary, another landmark in a career that began with the release of debut album St. Jude in 2008.

That record spawned some of the band’s biggest and most enduring tracks, including Not Nineteen Forever, Cavorting and Bide Your Time, while later releases brought fan favourites including Are You In Love With A Notion? and Modern Love.

And St. Jude has enjoyed a fairly remarkable afterlife.

Fifteen years after its original release, the record finally hit Number One on the UK Albums Chart in 2023 following its anniversary reissue.

Since their debut, Courteeners have released seven studio albums which have racked up sales of more than one million in the UK. They have also seen each of their last five records reach the Top Five.

This year also saw Courteeners mark two decades together with greatest hits collection God Bless The Band, featuring tracks from across all seven of their studio long players alongside two new songs, The Luckiest Man Alive and Plus One Forever.

The collection reached Number Two on the UK Albums Chart.

The Coral are coming too

There’s a pretty tasty supporting bill in Lincoln as well.

Merseyside psych-pop favourites The Coral will join Courteeners at the Castle, so expect Dreaming of You to be drifting across Lincoln city centre at some point during the evening.

The band have remained one of British indie’s more inventive survivors, moving between psychedelia, folk and guitar pop rather than simply living off the early-’00s nostalgia circuit.

Their latest chapter includes 13th studio album 388, adding another record to a catalogue stretching back more than two decades.

Also appearing are rising Manchester band The Guest List, who formed in 2021 and have been building a following with a sound drawing on the guitar-driven indie of acts including Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks and The Strokes.

Live at Lincoln Castle gets bigger each week

Courteeners join an increasingly busy Live at Lincoln Castle 2027 programme.

Already announced for headline dates are Robert Plant with Saving Grace and Suzi Dian, Bananarama, Holly Johnson, Kaiser Chiefs, Alfie Boe, Ronan Keating, Jack Savoretti and James Morrison.

The concerts are being staged through Lincolnshire County Council’s ongoing partnership with promoters Cuffe and Taylor, part of Live Nation.

Cuffe and Taylor promoter Mark Harrison said Courteeners’ connection with their audience should make the Castle show a particularly memorable one.

He said: “With two decades of great songs behind them, an incredible live reputation, and The Coral and The Guest List joining the bill, this is going to be a brilliant night.”

Lincoln Castle manager Kimberley Vickers couldn’t resist getting a couple of Courteeners references into the announcement either. “Courteeners, What Took You So Long?” she said.

“With their electric performances and massive singalongs, The Courteeners are one of the UK’s most loved live bands, and we can’t wait to see them light up our spectacular castle for the first time.

“It’s set to be one of the biggest nights of the summer, so don’t Bide Your Time – set your alarm to snap up tickets when they go on sale!”
