Nottingham is getting an epic drone show celebrating Robin Hood and city legends this Bonfire Night

Nottingham’s skyline is about to get a futuristic makeover.

A brand-new drone spectacular is heading to the city this November, with 250 synchronised drones set to transform the night sky above the Forest Recreation Ground into a giant canvas telling the story of Nottingham’s most famous legends.

Drone Show: Nottingham City of Legends lands on Thursday 5 November 2026, promising a 20-minute aerial spectacle inspired by the city’s rich history, iconic characters and legendary tales. Expect dazzling formations, cutting-edge technology and an original soundtrack designed to bring Nottingham’s folklore to life.

The show is being delivered in partnership with Nottinghamshire-based drone specialists Light Dynamix, whose technology is used in large-scale productions around the world. For this homegrown showcase, the company will help create a sky-high celebration of everything that makes Nottingham unique.

And it’s not just about what’s happening overhead. Visitors can also grab food and drinks on-site, making it an easy evening out for families, friends and anyone looking to swap traditional fireworks for something a little more 21st century.

Two performances are planned, giving visitors the chance to choose between an early or late show:

Early Show

  • Gates open: 5pm
  • Drones take flight: 6.30pm

Late Show

The event forms part of Nottingham City Council’s programme of free and low-cost events, and could be one of the most visually impressive nights in the city’s 2026 calendar.

If you’ve never seen a drone show before, imagine hundreds of lights dancing in perfect formation above the city, creating huge images, symbols and scenes in the sky. With Nottingham’s legendary stories as the inspiration, this one could be seriously spectacular.

Drone Show: Nottingham City of Legends takes place at Forest Recreation Ground on Thursday 5 November 2026.
