Award-winning immersive theatre favourite returns with gods, gossip and chaos

PUBLISHED:

A five-star immersive theatre hit is making its much-anticipated comeback to Nottingham this July.

Apple of Discord, the legendary production by award-winning local company Chronic Insanity, is set to transform The People’s Hall again into a riotous mythological playground on the brink of the Trojan War.

Set at a wedding gone spectacularly wrong, Apple of Discord throws audiences straight into the drama, inviting them to roam freely across three floors of the striking Grade II-listed venue. Expect scheming gods, clashing heroes and plenty of mischief, as you eavesdrop on conspiracies, take on quests and mingle with a 30-strong cast – or simply grab a drink and soak up the chaos of the ground-floor cabaret.

Critics have already fallen for its offbeat charm. LeftLion called it “chaotic, playful, and utterly charming,” while The Stage awarded it four stars, declaring that the show “deserves a longer run.” And with its blend of large-scale spectacle and interactive storytelling, it’s easy to see why.

Despite boasting production values to rival London’s immersive scene, Apple of Discord keeps things refreshingly accessible, with ticket prices starting at £30 and a strong focus on local talent. Director Joe Strickland says the mission is simple: “We are trying to create something that is often inaccessible financially and geographically to people in the East Midlands.”

The historic setting adds to the magic. Managed by Nottingham Historic Building Trust, The People’s Hall is usually closed to the public – making this a rare chance to explore the building in an entirely new way. “This is an excellent opportunity to experience The People’s Hall like never before,” says Development Officer Josh Packham.

As for what to expect? Don’t stress about seeing everything. “The point is to immerse yourself in a new world,” says Strickland. “Around every corner there’s something interesting to do, to see, and take part in.”

Apple of Discord runs at The People’s Hall, Heathcote Street, NG1 3AA, from July 20–24, 2026.
