Britpop legends Gene have announced their first UK tour in 21 years is coming to Nottingham’s Rock City on March 5 next year.

The group will hit the road next spring to play a number of the UK’s top music venues following the success of several reunion shows back in October.

Their gigs will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album ‘Olympian’, and will be Gene’s first tour since 2004.

The shows will feature the band’s classic line-up: Martin Rossiter (vocals), Matt James (drums), Steve Mason (guitars) and Kevin Miles (bass).

Drummer Matt James said: “All four of us met up, probably for the first time since our last gig, and it immediately felt just like it had always been. We were always very self-depreciating as a group and the banter quickly kicked back in. After a few quips barked across the pub table we relaxed and we all laughed a lot. Straightaway it felt like we were a band again. We’ve just to make sure we can do it musically now too.”

“We are putting all our energy into making this musically spectacular,” added Rossiter.

“Yes, we’re going to be earning some reasonably decent money, but it isn’t yachts in the Adriatic money and the main thing that convinced me to do this again was that, within five minutes, the conversations between the four of us had reached the point of, ‘how do we make this brilliant?’.

“So that drive is still there, the dynamic was still there and so I started daydreaming about what it would be like to waggle my – slightly larger – ass on the stage one more time.”

The tour comes to Nottingham Rock City on Thursday, March 5, 2006.
