The sandwich scene in Derby just got a whole lot tastier as Little Vic’s, a New York-inspired deli bar, has officially opened its doors in the heart of the city.

It’s the lunch spot you didn’t know you needed with a menu offering a range of loaded sandwiches with generous fillings of slow cooked beef, succulent chicken and vegan options too. A selection of sweet treats are also on offer.

One item on the menu winning fans is the Baz Mayo – the venue’s unique take on the classic egg mayo. This sandwich is packed with punchy Asian flavours that take a typical egg and cress way beyond the ordinary.

Little Vic’s is based on Victoria Street and is open six days a week between 10.30am till 3.30pm on weekdays, and 10am till 3pm on Saturdays.

Owner Aston Higton has been working hard on setting up Little Vic’s since last autumn and has been documenting the journey of transforming the space on Victoria Street into a site ready to serve food on his social media.

He has been working hard on the project since last autumn, getting stuck in with building prep such as stripping old wallpaper, overseeing the building team and making the site ready to serve food.

Aston described his new venture as ‘exciting definitely, terrifying, absolutely’.

He said: “The space on Victoria Street used to be empty, and now it’s turned something I’ve always wanted to see in Derby – a proper sandwich shop using good ingredients, done right.

“Think New York deli but with my personal twist. Nothing too fancy, just food I care about.”
