One of the most iconic steam trains of all time will be travelling through the East Midlands countryside this May – and you could be on board.
Great Central Railway Nottingham has teamed up with Fox & Edwards Events to bring steam fans the unforgettable chance to travel behind the world famous LNER A3 Flying Scotsman in May 2026.
It’s the first time the legendary locomotive has been in the East Midlands for 25 years.
Passengers can step aboard the iconic locomotive at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre’s Ruddington Fields station for an 80 minute return journey along the northern section of the Great Central Railway to Loughborough and back travelling through the pretty countryside route.
Along the way, you’ll experience the sights, sounds and atmosphere of one of the most iconic steam locomotives in the world.
Tickets start £30 and a choice of carriages are available:
First class passengers will travel in style right behind ‘Flying Scotsman’ in the GWR Hawksworth first class saloon. Passengers will also enjoy a complemetary glass of fizz and canapes during the journey too! Seating is arranged casually with sofas and armchairs for you to truly relax and experience the magic.
Premium Class travellers can make their journey extra special with a premium private compartment seating up to 6 passengers arranged in two rows of comfortable seats.
You can also experience travel as it used to be with a traditional class compartment. Arranged with seating for up to 8 passengers, you can have a private area on the train for your family or friends.
