A new image of a 65-year old man from Chesterfield who police now believe went missing two years ago has been issued to the public.

The new pic of David John Whyatt has been shared as part of a reappeal for information about his whereabouts.

Derbyshire Police say they only received a report concerning the safety of Mr Whyatt on May 20 last year – but now believe he may have been missing for up to two years before that date.

The 65-year-old, who detectives say ‘leads a reclusive life’, is a keen walker and has an interest in trains and the railways.

He is known to visit Tapton Lock, Sheffield and Matlock.

A spokesman said: “We have made extensive enquiries, including issuing numerous public appeals for information, but have not yet been able to locate him.

“The new photo shows David wearing a black top and posing in a woodland.

“It has been issued alongside a selection of previously released pictures and whilst they are from some time ago we are hoping someone may have seen him and be able to recognise him from the images.”

They added: “We are concerned for David’s welfare and are keen to hear from anyone who has seen him, or has any information on his whereabouts.”

David is thought to be around 5ft 9ins tall and of a slim build with grey hair.

If you can help with our investigation, contact Derbyshire Police on 101, quoting the reference 308 of 20 May.
