In our latest edition of The Spark we feature 21-year-old Cory McLellan who has just started studying fine art at Leicester’s DeMontfort University.

We asked him about the inspiration behind his latest sculpture.

“This work was inspired by some shapes I noticed in a zine I made in 2024, titled ‘a heavy unknowing,” he said.

“The zine was about bad experiences I had in my addiction, and this sculpture is a revisit of sorts.

“It’s about how I don’t have to abandon my trauma, but it doesn’t have to rule my life either. I can take pieces of it and use to to learn, to interpret, to inspire and fuel my current self, life, and practice.”
