An outdoor summer comedy festival in Leicester has been cancelled.
LCF In The Park was set to take place in Abbey Park on June 14 but has been cancelled with less than two-weeks’ notice.
The festival was being organised by crisis-hit Leicester Comedy Festival.
Tom Rosenthal, Lou Sanders and Phil Ellis were among the acts on the bill, but it appears the plug has been abruptly pulled by organisers.
Chortle comedy news website says no official announcement has been made, but ticket-holders have been sent an email saying the gig has been axed due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’, and the page for the event on the festival website has been deleted.
Those who bought tickets have been told they will get the £30 admission price back within ten days – but will not be refunded their £3-a-ticket booking fees.
It was recently revealed that hundreds of acts were still owed money by Leicester Comedy Festival after performing at the event back in February.
The Big Difference Company, who organise the annual comedy celebration, blamed cash-flow problems, saying they put their ‘operational expenditure’ over paying comedians.
However, when the BBC picked up the story last month, chief executive Michael Harris-Wakelam then told them he was ‘prioritising’ artists ‘to the detriment of some of our other planned activities.’
Chortle say they approached Harris-Wakelam for further comment on the cancellation of LCF In The Park.
