We’re losing so many of our favourite boozers before their time, with the perception that many pubs are just relics of the past.
But whilst many landlords all over the UK have been forced to board-up the windows, lock the doors and see their businesses flattened to make way for new apartments, The Playwright is revelling a dashing refurb to consolidate its reputation as the heart of the community.
Opening just in time for the bulk of the festive boozer season, I can see we’re about to spend A LOT of time in here.
£500,000 has been spent on the refurb of the beloved Nottingham pub on Shakespeare Street, which officially reopened its doors last (December 11). The renovation has introduced interactive entertainment including darts and shuffleboard, alongside a refreshed interior designed and an updated menu to make The Playwright a lively hub for socialising, games and community connection.
“We’ve given The Playwright a fresh new look to make it an even better place for locals to come together, enjoy great drinks and have a bit of fun” said Thomas Palko, General Manager of The Playwright.
“The refurbishment isn’t just about a facelift; it’s about creating a welcoming space for friends, families and neighbours to spend time together.”
The reopening comes at a challenging time for the hospitality sector, and brewery Wells & Co say they remain ‘committed to supporting its managed houses and pub partners and will continue to invest in high-quality experiences for local communities’ – which is music to the ears of seasoned pubgoers.
HOW ABOUT THIS…Nottingham Forest were founded inside the pub in 1865, when 15 players agreed to a proposal by J.S. Scrimshaw to form a football team and they chose Garibaldi Red as the club’s colour.
