There has been much talk of Nottingham Forest redevolping their City Ground stadium – and now plans seemed to have really stepped up a gear with the club revealing they now want to raise the capacity to 50,000.

The scheme would make the stadium one of the largest in England.

The club secured permission from Rushcliffe Borough Council back in June 2025 to redevelop the Peter Taylor stand which would see the demolition of existing buildings and structures, a replacement club shop and car parking, along with outline approval for up to 250 residential units.

The scheme proposed to increase the overall capacity of the existing Peter Taylor stand by about 5,000 seats to create a 10,000-seater capacity stand.

However, the Premier League side has now lodged further documents that seek permission to expand project and taking the capacity of the stadium from the present 30,000 spectators to up to 43,000–45,000, placing it in the top ten for capacity in the country.

The stadium’s total capacity would be above the 50,000 mark.

A club statement said: “The club is grateful for the positive public engagement and overwhelming support shown for our proposals ahead of the planning submission.

“We look forward to working with the mayor of the East Midlands, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as our supporters and the wider community, to achieve a successful outcome in the near future.”
