Head’s up East Midlands – some quality pork pies and pickles are coming your way!

The people of Melton Mowbray have been in a committed relationship with pies for centuries so its hardy surprising that the fast-approaching British Pie Week (March 2-8) is one of the highlights on the town calendar.

And boy, do those Mowbrayans know how to celebrate – they were the first lot to ever paint the town red after all (bless you, Wikipedia).

So, as you can imagine, Ye Olde Pie Shoppe has been champing at the bit to unveil it’s plans for Pie Week – and now the wait is over, so dig out those stretchy pants and limber up your stomach muscles because it’s time to feast.

The shop have unveiled this year’s Very Best of Melton Hamper’.which brings together the quintessential flavours of the town in one beautifully presented bundle, perfect as a gift or as the centrepiece of a British Pie Week feast.

A key part of the hamper’s character comes from the close relationships Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe has built with fellow local producers. Mr Pitchfork’s Pickles, based in the Vale of Belvoir, makes the Paint the Town Red chutney exclusively for the shop to a bespoke recipe. Tangy and generously packed with fruit, the chutney is infused with the marmalade and citrus notes of Round Corner Brewing’s Red Ale, bringing depth and balance to every bite.

The hamper includes The Best of Melton pork pie, topped with creamy Stilton and the shop’s signature ‘Paint the Town Red’ red ale chutney. A ‘Paint the Town Red’ red ale (440ml, 5.5% ABV), brewed to complement rich savoury flavours and a generous wedge of Stilton cheese (454g), a classic pairing for premium pork pie

This hamper is our way of sharing the flavours, craftsmanship and community spirit that define our town, and inviting people across the country to celebrate British pie heritage with us.”
