If there’s one thing Nottingham’s own Jake Bugg has never been short of, and it’s authenticity. Nearly 15 years after bursting onto the scene with a chart-topping debut, the singer-songwriter is heading back to his roots with a run of intimate UK shows celebrating his forthcoming seventh album, Alamo.
Fresh from a headline appearance at AmericanaFest in Nashville, Bugg has announced a 20-date UK in-store tour this November, giving fans the chance to see him in much smaller venues than they’re used to. Expect stripped-back performances, fan Q&As and album signings, with a particularly exciting stop for East Midlands fans.
Nottingham gets two intimate Jake Bugg shows
The Nottingham-born musician will play two consecutive dates at Rough Trade Nottingham on November 12 and 13, offering fans a rare chance to catch him up close and personal in his hometown.
The first date includes an acoustic performance, Q&A and signing session, while the second features an acoustic set and signing. Given Bugg’s local following, expect tickets to disappear quickly.
Leicester also lands a special show
East Midlands fans who miss out in Nottingham will get another opportunity when Bugg heads to the O2 Academy Leicester on November 18 for an acoustic performance, Q&A and signing event presented alongside Truck Store.
It’s one of only a handful of dates on the tour featuring the full acoustic performance and fan question session format.
A return to his folk roots
Released on November 13, Alamo sees Bugg reconnect with the folk and Americana influences that helped define his early career. Produced by Grammy-winning collaborators Jimmy Hogarth and Steve McEwan, the 11-track record is described as Bugg’s most personal collection yet, exploring themes of love, loneliness and self-discovery through stripped-back country and folk arrangements.
Nottingham homecoming at the Royal Concert Hall
As if the November dates weren’t enough for local fans, Bugg will return to the city once again next year as part of a larger UK and Ireland tour.
The singer will headline Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall on February 23, one of just 12 UK and Irish dates on a solo acoustic tour that begins in Manchester and wraps up with two nights at London’s iconic Union Chapel.
For Nottingham fans, it means two very different ways to see one of the city’s biggest musical success stories: in the intimate surroundings of Rough Trade this autumn, or on the grand stage of the Royal Concert Hall next spring.
And for anyone who has followed Bugg’s journey from Clifton teenager to triple-platinum artist, that’s a homecoming worth catching.
