20,000 set to descend on Leicester for massive Pride takeover

The East Midlands is fast becoming the country’s Pride capital

Get ready, Leicester: Pride is going big this summer.

More than 20,000 people are expected to descend on the city for Leicester Pride on Saturday September 5, shaping up to be one of the UK’s largest celebrations of its kind – and a bold reminder that the East Midlands is fast becoming the country’s Pride capital.

Now firmly established as the region’s biggest free, one-day Pride festival, Leicester Pride brings together the whole spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community – plus allies, families, businesses and out-of-towners – for a vibrant day of visibility, joy and unapologetic self-expression.

It’s part of a wider East Midlands moment. From Hinckley to Ashby, Loughborough to Coalville, Pride events are popping up across the map, creating a powerful, interconnected scene that champions inclusivity and community spirit. At the heart of it all? Leicester Pride, drawing in thousands every year and cementing the city’s rep as one of the UK’s most welcoming destinations.

Expect a riot of colour courtesy of the city-centre parade, alongside live music, entertainment, community stalls, street food, family-friendly activities and plenty of chances to connect with local groups and support services. In short: come for the party, stay for the people.

Behind the scenes, organisers are gearing up for a standout edition. As Chair Martyn Parker puts it, the Midlands has become a “powerhouse” for Pride – and Leicester is right at the centre of that energy. With crowds topping 20,000, this year’s event promises to showcase just how vibrant, resilient and diverse the community really is.

Beyond the glitter and good vibes, there’s serious impact too. Leicester Pride continues to give a strong boost to the city’s hospitality and retail scene, pulling crowds into the centre and reinforcing Leicester’s status as one of the UK’s most diverse urban hubs.

Line-up details and further announcements are still to come – but one thing’s clear: this is a date for your diary.
