Helping you make the most of life in the East Midlands

Students can now protect their leftover pizza from hungry housemates with lockable boxes from Domino’s

Domino’s are giving out lockable pizza boxes to students in the East Midlands so they can protect their leftover slices from hungry housemates.

As many students begin their Fresher’s journey, Domino’s has created the new student essential they are calling the Slice Security safe.

The Slice Security safe comes equipped with a noise-activated alarm and a personalised lock keypad to put off greedy intruders and keep leftover slices protected.

The new creation comes as research found that a staggering 65% of students who lived in shared accommodation have had their food stolen during their time at uni.

Adding to the misery, the favourite and most common items nicked from the fridge included milk (45%), bread (33%) and pizza (18%) – the bare necessities for any student.

The findings also discovered nearly half (46%) of students had caught someone red-handed stealing food from the fridge, resulting in over half (52%) of students having a full-blown argument with their flat mates.

Melanie Howe, spokesperson at Domino’s said: “There’s nothing worse than thinking you’ve got some tasty leftovers ready for the next day, only to be left fuming when someone has pinched them. For most students, that’s an all-too-common reality.

To make sure others don’t become a victim to the same misfortune, we wanted to create the Slice Security safe which fits in fridges and keeps precious leftover pizza safe from greedy housemates.”

But it’s not all doom and gloom when it comes to moving out to shared accommodation, as students over the last decade admitted living with friends (39%) and having your own space (35%) were the top things they loved about living in student accommodation. Although living in messy conditions (48%) having loud flatmates (43%) and having food stolen (36%) have all been listed as the things students worry about when sharing a space.

To get their hands on a limited-edition Slice Security safe, pizza fans should head to https:/dominosslicesecurity.co.uk between Tuesday 23rd September and Tuesday 1st October 2024 – but you’ll have to be quick, as it’s only available until stock lasts.
