We have just being reliable informed a trifle is NOT a flan…disappointing to hear.

Anyway…

Devotees of desserts will be delighted to hear Birds Bakeries are bringing back their iconic trifle to their stores the East Midlands — but there’s a catch, it’s for ONE DAY ONLY!

The much-loved dessert will make its grand return on Sunday, December 21, with pre-orders open until Sunday, December 14.

The East Midlands-based bakers confirmed only a very limited number of trifles will be available in each participating store and they expect it to be one of Birds’ most sought-after festive treats.

The trifle was taken off the Birds menu for good back in 2023 with the bakery blaming the complex recipe that cannot be made to scale throughout the year.

Jamie Bird, managing director at Birds Bakery, said: “Every year we hear from customers asking if our classic trifle will return to stores and it’s great to know that one of our products has made such an impact on those who tried it when it was available.

“Our trifle is a surprisingly intricate dessert for our teams to prepare and one we cannot offer regularly, which is why this one-day comeback feels so special.

“The enthusiasm from our retail team and customers makes it all worthwhile – we would definitely encourage people to pre-order so they do not miss out!”

It will be available in 44 stores on Sunday 21, those of which are open on Sundays. To find your nearest store, head to www.birdsbakery.com/pages/our-stores

How about this…The Scots have a similar dish to the trifle, called tipsy laird and it’s made with Drambuie or whisky
