If your mates say you’re ‘too much’, Butlin’s Skegness might have the perfect job for you

Butlin’s is holding open auditions at its Skegness resort this October

Ever fancied getting paid to be the loudest, most energetic person in the room? Well, this might be your perfect moment, East Midlanders.

Butlin’s is holding open auditions at its Skegness resort this October as it hunts for the next generation of iconic Redcoats, 90 years after the very first one took to the stage.

And the best part? You don’t need an agent, industry contacts, or a dramatic sob story. If you’re 18 or over, you can just show up.

The auditions take place on Wednesday, October 14 at Butlin’s in Ingoldmells, Skegness, where hopeful performers will be put through their paces with interviews, group activities, a dance section and a one-minute showpiece. Think less X Factor, more organised chaos with jazz hands.

Anyone wanting to give it a go should register between 10am and 10.45am, bring a CV and headshot, and be prepared to stick around all day if they make it through to the final stages.

Butlin’s says it’s looking for people with big personalities, confidence and enough energy to keep holidaymakers entertained. Successful applicants will join a 99-strong Redcoat team spread across Skegness, Minehead and Bognor Regis.

And it’s not just about putting on a red blazer and smiling for photos. New recruits get training through the Redcoat Academy, including coaching in presenting, performing arts and even DJing.

Plenty of familiar faces have started out at Butlin’s over the years, including TV presenter Stephen Mulhern, and bosses say the scheme is still a launchpad for aspiring entertainers.

Mike Godolphin, Entertainment Director at Butlin’s, said: “Some of Britain’s best-known entertainers started their careers at Butlin’s, and Skegness is where the Redcoat story started 90 years ago.

“We’re looking for a new generation of performers with the personality, energy and confidence to connect with an audience.”

He added that for some people it could be their first break into entertainment, while others could use it as a stepping stone to the next stage of their career.

So if your mates are constantly telling you you’re “waaaaaay too much”, congratulations. That might finally be a job qualification. 😉

The auditions take place on Wednesday, October 14 at Butlin’s Skegness. Registration is from 10am to 10.45am and applicants must be aged 18 or over.
