Lionesses to play World Cup qualifier at City Ground in March

The Lionesses will head to Nottingham for the first time in 32 years

Nottingham Forest has announced England will face Iceland at the City Ground for their first home match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifying campaign in March.

The record-breaking Lionesses, who have reached three consecutive major tournament finals under head coach Sarina Wiegman – including winning back-to-back European Championships – will head to Nottingham for the first time in 32 years on Saturday, March 7, 2026, with a kick-off time of 12:30pm GMT.

England’s road to Brazil will begin away against Ukraine on March 3, before playing their first home qualifier against Iceland at the City Ground four days later. World champions Spain are the final team to make up qualifying group A3, so expect bad blood.

England Head Coach Sarina Wiegman said: “We’re excited to play at Nottingham Forest. It has been a very long time since England Women have appeared there, and it’s important for us to bring the Lionesses to different parts of the country.

“I know the fans, as always, will create a brilliant atmosphere for the players and give us fantastic support in this historic stadium.”

Tickets for the fixture will go on sale to My England Football members between 22-28 January, before going on general sale on Thursday, January 29.
