Speaking in an interview accompanying the documentary’s release, Vardy opens up about the turbulent period after being released by boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday, admitting he “went off the rails” and was regularly in trouble.

“Luckily, it didn’t matter – it didn’t hurt me, you know what I mean? But it could’ve gone completely the opposite way,” he says.

“If football didn’t work, then I would’ve been left with absolutely nothing – apart from a ‘C’ in Maths.”

Rebekah Vardy also reflects on how close her husband came to missing out altogether, saying: “People see the goals and the trophies, but they don’t see how easily it could have gone wrong.

“There were moments where it really did feel like it was now or never.”
