Dough-nut good enough! Dunkin’ Fosse Park hit with shock hygiene score

Report makes grim reading

Dirty trolleys, little to no food safety management and health and safety concerns were among a raft of issues uncovered at Dunkinโ€™ Donuts at Fosse Park.

Blaby District Council (BDC) food inspectors visited the Dunkinโ€™ Fosse Park doughnut chain on June 3 and found a number of problems at the store before issuing it with one of the lowest food hygiene scores โ€“ a one out of five.

During their visit, inspectors found major structural problems in part of the building, including a dirty floor area near the extended kitchen, which was said to be โ€œnot suitableโ€ flooring and a part in the bar area that was โ€œseverely damagedโ€.

It was also observed that a refuse bin was found to be โ€œoverflowingโ€ which โ€œposed a risk of attraction of pestsโ€.

Cleaning was also an issue at the Fosse Park branch, which inspectors called โ€œinadequateโ€ after finding a dirty doughnut trolley with โ€œdebrisโ€, spillages that needed mopping up, and debris on the floor that needed a โ€œthorough cleanโ€.

Inspectors also found that staff were leaving their clothes โ€œhaphazardlyโ€ in parts of the restaurant with fears of โ€œcross-contamination riskโ€ whilst electric fly killer covers and bulbs were also missing.

In the hygiene report there were also major concerns about food safety management with inspectors saying they found no evidence of it.

They said that staff were โ€œnot carrying out the identified controls at critical points and there were โ€œno fridge temperature checks, cleaning records or delivery checksโ€. It was also found that staff were โ€œdefrosting.. toastiesโ€ฆ at room temperatureโ€.

Inspectors made strict demands of the chain, making sure that staff were โ€œproperly trained and have the means to carry out the necessary controls and monitoring proceduresโ€.

Staff also pointed out to food hygiene bosses that there was no WiFi signal in the store, which meant that food management systems werenโ€™t being carried out, and a printer inside the chain โ€œdidnโ€™t workโ€.

Trolleys and boxes were also found blocking the chainโ€™s fire exit, whilst one trolley had plastic wrapped around the wheel, which inspectors said was a potential trip hazard.

Dunkinโ€™ were contacted for a response to the food hygiene rating but didnโ€™t receive a comment in time for publication.
