If you needed another excuse to book a Sunday roast, here it is: The Butchers at Westgate in Long Eaton has officially been named among the top 10 percent of restaurants worldwide, thanks to Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards 2026.
The award recognises restaurants that consistently impress diners, based on reviews and ratings submitted over the past year. In other words, this isn’t a panel of judges making the call. It’s thousands of visitors sharing their experiences, and The Butchers at Westgate has clearly left plenty of people very happy.
Housed inside the beautifully restored Victorian Westgate Mill, the restaurant has become one of the East Midlands’ most talked-about dining spots since taking on new ownership in June 2024. Known for its modern British menu, inventive cocktails and crowd-pleasing Sunday roasts, it’s also the home of the now-famous Mega Roast, which has attracted hungry visitors from across the region.
And the accolade arrives at a time when independent hospitality businesses are facing significant challenges.

The restaurant’s approach combines old-school hospitality with locally sourced ingredients and a menu that balances comfort-food classics with more adventurous dishes. Its steaks are sourced from nearby Glebe Farm in Shardlow, Derbyshire, while sell-out weekends and packed Sunday services have helped cement its reputation as a local favourite.
For Adams and the team, though, the award is about more than rankings.
