Synth pop icons The Human League announce headline Derby Summer Sessions show

Synth-pop pioneers The Human League will bring their iconic electronic sound to the East Midlands next summer when they headline Derby Summer Sessions, performing on Thursday, July 3, at the picturesque Markeaton Park.

The BRIT Award-winners will make their highly anticipated Summer Session debut on Thursday, July 3, at the picturesque Markeaton Park.

Joining them for this unmissable night are Tom Bailey, frontman of the Thompson Twins, delivering upbeat, nostalgic classics like “Hold Me Now” and “Doctor! Doctor!” and Blancmange, the acclaimed synth-pop duo behind hits like “Living On The Ceiling” and “Don’t Tell Me.”

Tickets go on general sale on Friday, December 6.

Other headliners taking to the stage for Derby Summer Sessions 2025 include Blossoms, Rag’n’Bone Man and Simple Minds, with further acts to be revealed soon.

Legacy

Formed in Sheffield in 1977, the Human League rose to prominence with their 1981 album Dare, which propelled them to global fame with hits like “Don’t You Want Me,” a song that topped both UK and US charts and redefined electronic music.

Their groundbreaking fusion of electronic rhythms and cutting-edge production continued to dominate the charts throughout the ’80s and ’90s with tracks like “Mirror Man,” “(Keep Feeling) Fascination,” and “Human.” A BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act and a career that has influenced generations of artists solidify their status as pioneers of synth-pop. Known for their innovative live shows, including Adrian Wright’s striking visual presentations, The Human League bring a fresh vivacity to every performance.

Tickets will go on general sale on Friday, December 6 via smmrsessions.com and ticketmaster.co.uk.
