Work on new Travelodge and Starbucks on Skegness seafront ‘on track’ and will open as planned next summer

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has exchanged contracts for two new hotels on the east coast of England, in Skegness and Harwich, with construction on both developments having also commenced on site.

The new 80-bed Travelodge hotel in Skegness is being built on a former crazy golf site on South Parade, and will create 30 jobs.

It will feature the company’s in-house restaurant 85 Bar Cafe, which will be located on the top floor of the six-storey building, overlooking the sea.

The hotels are being developed by Burney Group and constructed by Faircloth Construction Ltd.

Burney Group’s managing director, Daren Burney, confirmed that everything is on track to open as planned next summer dependent on the weather.

He said: “It’s all progressing exactly on schedule. The Starbucks drive-thru will be handed over to the tenant for fit out at the beginning of February [2025]. The Travelodge is right on schedule to hand over and open by the end of June [2025].

“Everything is running on schedule and to plan at this moment in time and, if the winter weather is kind to us, that won’t change.”

Tony O’Brien, UK development director of Travelodge, said: “Travelodge is delighted to continue the expansion of our network of hotels throughout the UK and these new hotels will be fantastic additions to our portfolio.

“The hotel is located in prime locations of Skegness, suitably located for both our business and leisure customers visiting the areas.

“We are sure that these hotels will perform well for us, creating new jobs and boosting the local economies.”

Travelodge has a further requirement to open 300 more hotels across the UK, including further locations in Essex and Lincolnshire.
