A new British musical packed with northern charm and based on a hit true story is heading to the stage in Leicester this week.
Bank of Dave The Musical tells the “true-ish” tale of Burnley businessman Dave Fishwick, a self-made millionaire who set out to shake up the banking system after seeing local people and small businesses turned away by traditional lenders.
You can catch the show at Curve Leicester Wednesday, May 20 – Saturday, May 30, 2026
So, what’s it about?
Frustrated with the status quo, Dave comes up with a bold plan – launch his own bank and reinvest profits back into the community.
Teaming up with his “posh but principled” lawyer Hugh, Dave heads to London to take on powerful City figures in a bid to bring fairer finance to the masses. But standing in his way are the elite banking bosses determined to protect their turf.
The production is based on the Sunday Times bestselling book, Bafta award-winning documentary and the globally successful Netflix film of the same name.
The show features a book and lyrics by Rob Madge (My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?), Cabaret) and music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary (The Great British Bake Off Musical, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾).
It will be directed by Curve artistic director Nikolai Foster, bringing the feelgood underdog story to life on stage in Leicester.
Who is in it?
Starring Sam Lupton (Only Fools and Horses, Wicked) as Dave Fishwick, Hayley Tamaddon (Emmerdale, Coronation Street) as Nicky, Lucca Chadwick-Patel (Mean Girls, Mamma Mia!) as Hugh; Claire Moore (Miss Saigon, A Christmas Carol the Musical) as Maureen and Lauryn Redding (Standing at the Sky’s Edge) as Alex.
