This Loughborough fire had drama, flames… and a rescued chameleon

Firefighters were called to a house fire in Loughborough yesterday afternoon (29) after a bedroom went up in flames.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus rushed in, tackled the blaze with a hose reel jet, and had it under control pretty sharpish.

But the real plot twist? They also rescued a pet chameleon from the smoke-filled house. The tiny survivor was safely reunited with its owner and is, Thankfully, absolutely fine.

Smoke alarms were the real unsung heroes of the day, raising the alarm early enough for neighbours to step in and the fire service to respond quickly.

Moral of the story: check your smoke alarms. Test them. Replace the batteries. Because they don’t just save houses — they save lives (and, apparently, reptiles)
