Ahoy there – delighted to see you here perusing for something new to treat your ears as the Bank Holiday weekend draws to a close.
We’re stepping up our efforts to shout about new music and rising artists from around the East Midlands over the coming months — and not to blow our own trumpet, but we’re confident you’ll love this week’s pick.
Jahrel JP and the Future are a Nottingham three‑piece who dropped their debut single, “Step Inside,” on Friday — a tune their growing fanbase will instantly recognise as the explosive opener to their live set. It’s taken from their new EP, which captures the band’s fusion of punk, ska and classic blues‑rock with far more polish than any first release has a right to.
The trio — Jahrel JP (vocals, bass), Jehu (guitars) and Bobbi (drums) — tore through tracks from the EP during their show at The Grove, last night (5) and we left our first live encounter with them doing what any self‑respecting new‑music obsessive would do: raced home, fired up the laptop and heading straight to their Bandcamp for more.
And after receiving an eye‑watering utility bill last week, I can definitely empathise with the hard‑up geezer whose misfortunes are chronicled in the opening verse of “Flat on My Back.”

If you want your music to be considered for a future ‘Ones to Watch’ feature, send your MP3 files or a link to BandCamp or streaming platforms to contact@stuckinthemiddle.co.uk with ”A Treat For Yer Tabs’ in the subject line. We only consider acts emerging from around the East Midlands: Cockneys and Northern acts need not apply
