Calling all clubbers: iconic Nottingham venue Stealth needs your help to win the BBC Radio 1’s Dance Awards to find the best small club that’s helped underground dance music thrive over the past year.

Shortlisted on the basis of artist recommendations along with Radio 1 staffers, the club on Goldsmith Street is in the running for the national broadcaster’s Grassroots Venue award to be decided by a public vote, with the deadline this Friday (13).

The 660-capacity, two-room venue has been at the heart of Nottingham’s nightlife for more than 20 years since it was opened by DHP Family in 2004.

Regular upgrades have ensured it stays top of class with the best production in the city including a huge Void system in the main room and iconic Funktion Ones in room 2.

Built on variety, the regular club nights span house, techno, UKG, bass, DNB and more, with a mix of in-house programming and collaborations with local promoters and artists.

Over the last year, the club has hosted and sold out major nights with artists such as Ewan McVicar, MPH & Champion and Alisha as well as collaborating with Nottingham crews and artists including Lukas Wigflex, Tasté, Psyked, Transistor, Tumble Audio, Soul Buggin’, Cold Brewed and PullUp Recordings just to name a few.

Some of the emerging local artists the club has supported – Auramatic, Aysha,  Holl3 , FMS , N4TEE and Stargirl  – are now gaining attention beyond the city.

Stealth also promotes events at other Nottingham venues such as 4am Kru and Mall Grab at The Palais, DnB allstars and Hybrid Minds at Rock City

The Stealth team said: “For many people, Stealth is a defining part of their formative years discovering dance music – and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of. Going forwards, this is something we will continue to champion to allow Stealth to be a space where artists and promoters can grow.”

As Radio 1 celebrates the year in Dance, they are giving people the chance to choose their Essential Mix of the Year, Grassroots Venue (UK), Major Venue (UK & Europe) and Track of the Year.
