Worksop Town Football Club will be building four new stands following “growing community interest and the club’s strong performance”.

The club is currently based at Windsor Foodservice Stadium in Sandy Lane, and has been since 1994 after its departure from the Central Avenue ground.

Worksop Town FC claims to be one of the oldest clubs in the world, having been established in 1861, and says it has had years of “rebuilding and sustained progress”.

The Tigers were promoted to the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 2023, and later made a landmark achievement by securing a position in the Enterprise National League North in 2025.

To meet league requirements and enhance the matchday experience, the club says it is looking to improve its facilities.

Bassetlaw District Council has now approved plans for four new spectator stands and new turnstiles, paving the way for the improvements.

“These proposed upgrades aim to ensure compliance, safety, and long-term sustainability, while respecting the club’s traditions and identity,” the club says in planning documents.

“As Worksop Town moves forward, it remains committed to its supporters and the wider community that continues to stand behind it.

“The proposed improvements will bring significant benefits to the local community.

“In addition to accommodating the growing number of football supporters, improvements to the stadium will allow the club to offer more opportunities for community engagement.

“Worksop Town FC is deeply committed to supporting local youth through a variety of youth and grassroots programmes which provide training and development opportunities for young people.

“The improved facilities will enable the club to host more community events, charity functions, and youth football programs, further strengthening the stadium’s role as a focal point for local engagement.”

The new stands will be funded through the Premier League Stadium Fund, which awards grants to clubs to support the improvement of their stadium facilities for players, supporters and officials.

According to documents Worksop Town FC consistently draws local support, with average home attendances of around 800 to 900 people during the 2024/25 season, while key fixtures have seen peaks of just over 1,000 spectators.

The highest recorded attendance for the season was 2,032, during the Premier Division Play-off Final at Sandy Lane, “indicating growing community interest and the club’s strong performance”.

The ground has already undergone modern upgrades, including an artificial 4G pitch and improved supporter facilities.

Bassetlaw’s planning officers said in a report: “The proposed development would not have a significant adverse impact on visual amenity, the overall character and appearance of the area.

“It would also not impact the residential amenity of the neighbouring properties or exacerbate flood risk or highway issues in the locality.”
