Ahead of her major new exhibition at Nottingham’s New Art Exchange, artist Quilla Constance sits down with Kirsty Corbett for the Arts & Toast podcast to talk creativity, identity and the inspirations behind her work.
One of Britain’s most compelling contemporary artists is heading to Nottingham this autumn, as Quilla Constance takes over New Art Exchange with her most ambitious solo exhibition to date.
Running from now to 16 January 2027, Activating Intersections brings together monumental oil paintings, immersive installations and a wearable artwork designed to be activated by the public, both inside the gallery and out on the streets of Nottingham.
Fresh from appearing on Sky Max’s Rob & Romesh Vs, the British-Jamaican artist is known for creating work that blurs the lines between art, performance and participation. That spirit sits perfectly with New Art Exchange’s distinctive community-led ethos. The exhibition follows Constance’s selection by the gallery’s unique VOICE assembly, a 40-member citizen panel that helps shape the organisation’s artistic programme.
Rather than asking audiences to simply observe, Activating Intersections invites them to become part of the work itself, transforming the gallery into a space for conversation, collaboration and cultural exchange.
